The University of Central Oklahoma partnered with Capstone Development Corp. to develop two phases new housing on the Edmond campus. The Phase I project consists of three-story, walk up style apartment buildings creating an urban neighborhood environment with pedestrian paths and recreation areas that blend with the existing campus. The three buildings provide a mix of 4-bedroom/2 bathroom and 2-bedroom/2 bathroom apartments. University Commons Phase I was completed in 1999.
In 2001, University Commons Phase II was completed. Phase II added 302 beds of suite style housing in a four-story building located on a site adjacent to Phase I and was planned so the building created a landscaped court with basketball, sand lot volley ball, pavilion with grills and vending area, with open green space that is shared by both Phase I and II residents. One third of the units in Phase II are two-bedroom shared units. The remaining units provide two-bedroom shared suites.
