The Capstone Team was selected to develop the first “Village” community on the campus of Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina following a competitive bid process and interview. Completed in 2004, the Village provides over 250 beds in mostly individual houses, along with one multiple organizational house. Each Chapter had the option to “enhance” specified finishes in the parlor/common living areas such as paint colors, floor materials, and the outside entrance of each house. Shared residential suites were designed for two occupants, with a shared private bathroom. The common area includes a catering kitchen and parlor space for social gatherings and group meetings. The Community Building was planned for 150-person capacity and is used for dances and other social functions. The community building includes a wet kitchenette and accommodations for power, lighting and acoustics for large gatherings. A two-bedroom apartment unit, as well as an office for the Resident Director is also located in the Community Building.
