Capstone Development Corp. was selected as the result of a competitive RFQ/RFP process to design and develop a new 459-bed apartment community on the Oakland campus. Complementing the nearby neighborhood and campus historic structures, the six residential buildings offer three and four bedroom/two bath and two bedroom/one bath apartments. A central community building houses the manager’s office and a spacious community room opening onto a covered patio overlooking the basketball and volleyball courts. Fireplaces in the community room invite residents to gather in small study groups or around a large screen television. A kitchen area is also available for special occasions. Apartment buildings are brick on two levels in the Tudor style with half-timbered stucco on the top story. Energy efficiency is designed into the project and broad sidewalks connecting buildings in the community were planned to accommodate snow removal equipment. The apartments were completed in 2002.
